Zang Boping (1913-2005), also known as Zang Shutang, was born in Tang county, Hebei Province. He served twice as secretary of the Party Committee of Nankai University, in 1964 and 1978, and served as president of Nankai University in 1978.
Zang was educated at Baoding University and the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Yanching University. He successively served as Secretary of the Party Committee of Tang County, Magistrate of Lingshou County and Mayor of Shijiazhuang. After the foundation of the People's Republic of China in 1949, he successively served as Director of the Department of Housing and Urban-rural Development in Hebei Province, the second Secretary of the Party Committee of Beihang University, and Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Nankai University. In 1979, he served as Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference for two terms.
