Mu Guoguang (1986-1995 )

Born in Jinxi, Liaoning Province, Mu Guoguang, who lived from 1931 to 2012, was a famous opticist, and an academician of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Third World Academy of Sciences. Having made prominent contributions to the nation, he served as the president of Nankai University from January 1986 to August 1995.

In 1952, Mu Guoguang graduated from the Physics Department of Nankai University and joined the Nankai faculty. His later leadership roles included: Dean of the Physics Department, Director of the Optical Institute, Vice President, Dean of the Graduate School, President of Nankai University with a concurrent post as chief of the National Laboratory for Applied Optics (CAS), and Deputy to the seventh and eighth National People's Congresses. He was also invited to be Honorary Director of the Academic Board of Nankai University, Director of the Contemporary Optics Institute, Honorary President of the Tianjin Association for Science and Technology, Honorary Director of the Chinese Optical Society, editorial board member of periodicals like Science China, Science Bulletin, Nonlinear Optics (U.S.), Optics & Laser Technology (U.K.), Optical Review (Japan) and Acta Optica Sinica (China).
