With the great ambition and big strategy of “with arts to govern the country, with science to trengthen the country and with business to enrich the country”, Nankai University has set up three disciplines standing like a triple, i.e. arts, science and business disciplines, since 1919 when the school was founded. Meeting need of economic and social development at that time, Business School of Nankai University developed rapidly and has a great influence at home and abroad.
Reform and opening-up brought the spring of management discipline development. It was determined to rebuild the school in 1980. The school recruited undergraduates in 1983. It started to enroll postgraduates in 1983. And it recruited doctoral candidate in 1986. In order to adapt to demand of economic and social development, entrusted and subsidized by the National Tourism Administration, Tourism Department was set up in 1981. Entrusted by the National Audit Office in 1985, Nankai University set up audit specialty and recruited students firstly in China; Accounting Department of Nankai University was officially rebuilt in 1987. Marketing, financial management, information management and other disciplines was established in succession in 1993. International Business School of Nankai University was founded in 1994. The school proposed the education concept of “Great Wisdom and Good Character” based on the school motto of “Morality, Capacity and Fast-changing”. Nowadays, “Great Wisdom and Good Character” has become an important part of culture for the Business School. This year is the 85th anniversary of the Business School’s establishment. Management discipline has been rebuilt for almost 35 years.
The school was renamed as Business School of Nankai University in 2005. At present, its staff team was composed by 106 full-time teachers, thereinto, 50 professors and 44 associate professors, and 81 administrative service staff. It has Management Department, Accounting Department, Financial Management Department, Human Resources Management Department, Marketing Department, Management Science and Engineering Department, Information Resources Management Department, Modern Management Institute and other teaching and research departments. It covers three first-level disciplines, i.e. business administration management, science and engineering, library and information and archives management.
The school has administrative organizations, such as HR Office, Administrative Office, Teaching and Research Office, Postgraduate Office, International Exchange and Cooperation Office and Student Work Office, etc., professional degree education centers, like Master of Business Administration（MBA）Center, Executive Master of Business Administration（EMBA）Center, Master of Project Management（MPM） Center, Master of Professional Accounting（MPAcc）Center and Senior Management Training Center and so on, and scientific research central authorities, e.g. Chinese Corporate Governance Institute, Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Research Center, Entrepreneurial Management Research Center and Corporate Culture Research Center and the like. Management Science Comprehensive Teaching and Experiment Center was set up recently with approval of the School and its affiliates contain human resources evaluation laboratory, Selten laboratory and other laboratories for administration discipline.
Business School of Nankai University became one of the nine schools that were first batch of MBA education pilot schools in 1991 and explored MBA project education and cultivation practice in China as a pioneer. The school ranked third in “Evaluation on Master of Business Administration (MBA) Teaching of Chinese Universities” and ranked first among comprehensive universities. For more than 20 years, MBA project of Nankai University has formed distinctive brand effect. Its graduates have made outstanding contributions at their own posts. Alumni culture with “Team, Win-win, Innovation and Cooperation” as its core was formed. It is one of the MBA projects with stronger impact in China. Degree Office of the State Council approved Nankai University as one of the organizations that firstly undertake cultivation of Executive Master of Business Administration（EMBA）in Aug., 2002. The University ranked fourth in the first session Evaluation Contest about EMBA with the Most Powerful Leadership in China.
Business School of Nankai University formally passed AMBA five-year international certification in Nov., 2013.
Preponderant disciplines of the School are entrepreneurship and innovation management, corporate governance, corporate finance and accounting, marketing and service management.
Zhang Yuli , Cheung Kong Scholar Chair Professor, is a leading feature in small and medium-sized enterprises entrepreneurship and innovation research field in domestic management science circle. Currently, he holds many posts, e.g. dean of Business School of Nankai University and director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research Center of Nankai University, member of National Master of Business Administration (MBA) Education Instruction Committee, expert of disciplinary planning and evaluation group of National Social Science Fund, executive director of Chinese Society for Management Modernization, member of the fourteenth expert appraisal group of National Natural Sciences Fond Management Committee and member of Entrepreneurship Education Instruction Committee for Institutions of Higher Education of Education Ministry.
Li Wei’an, Cheung Kong Scholar Chair Professor, is a leading feature in corporate governance circle in domestic management science circle. He now serves as dean of Chinese Corporate Governance Research Institute of Nankai University, convener of disciplinary evaluation group (business administration) of the State Council’s Academic Degrees Committee, vice chairman of Professional Teaching Instruction Committee for Business Administration Discipline, Institutions of Higher Education of Education Ministry, member of National Master of Business Administration (MBA) Teaching Instruction Committee, member of Management Division of the sixth Science and Technology Committee, the Ministry of Education, vice chairman of Chinese Society for Management Modernization and president of Tianjin University of Finance and Economics and so on.
Qi Anbang, professor and doctoral supervisor, is dean of Master of Project Management（MPM） Center of Nankai University. He is a famous expert in project management field. He holds the post of Chairman for research and management committee of International Project Management Institute for two consecutive terms. He also acts as deputy secretary general of China Project Management Society Executive Committee and deputy director of China Project Management Society Academic Committee, executive director for Information System Institute of China System Engineering Society and member of China Engineering Cost Association Expert Committee.
Liu Zhiyuan, professor and doctoral supervisor, is deputy dean of Business School of Nankai University. He is an expert in corporate finance and accounting field. He serves as long-term director of Accounting Society of China. He is also for several influential academic societies and institutes, such as director of the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants,director of China Accountant Professoriate, director of Chinese Institute of Finance and Cost for Young and Mid-career Professionals, director and deputy dean of training committee for Chinese Institute of Internal Audit and director for Accounting Association of China International Business and Economics and so on.
Xu Hui, professor and doctoral supervisor, is a well-known scholar in marketing and service management field. In recent five years, he has published 5 professional papers on the magazine named Management World. He is now communication review expert for National Natural Fund Project, communication review expert for National Social Science Fund Project, communication review expert for Social Science Fund Project of the Ministry of Education and director of China International Trade Association.
Zhang Jixun, professor and doctoral supervisor, is dean for accounting department of the Business School. He is an expert in accounting and audit discipline. Currently, he holds the following posts, executive director of China Audit Institute, member of Academic Committee of China Audit Institute, vice president of Tianjin Audit Institute, member of Audit Specialty Degree Postgraduate Education Instruction Committee and member of Senior Professional Title Evaluation Committee of National Audit Office.
Li Yongjian, professor and doctoral supervisor, is dean of Management Science and Engineering Department of the Business School. He now acts as executive director of Chinese Society for Management Science and Engineering, director of Systems Engineering Society of China, executive director of Scheduling Branch and executive director of Stochastic Service and Operations Management Branch and executive director of Cooptation Operations Society for Operations Research Society of China.
Li Rong, associate professor, was awarded industrial engineering doctor degree by o Industrial Engineering College of Purdue University. He has worked at Olin Business School of Washington University and Singapore Management University. He achieved long-term cooperation with Olin Business School of Washington University in research project about logistics supply chain, which was subsidized by Tianjin Thousand Youth Talents Program.
