May 28th-30th, “Meet the Challenge!” Beijing Outdoor Invitation Tournaments for Undergraduates (second edition) was held at Beijing International Youth Camp’s Jinyu Fengshan campus. Thirty university teams from Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, and Hong Kong took part in this competition. Nankai University was invited to join it as well.
The competition consisted of two phases. In the first phase, the organizing committee held five main sports activities, including outdoor activities, field survival training, self-rescue in emergency situations, team work, and environmental protection. Meanwhile, there were also 13 minor outdoor athletic team activities, such as orienteering, construction of camps, and make fire by drilling wood. The events of the second phase were: construction of a camp, tree paths, archery, mountain crossing, rafting, and swimming. All the challenges were aimed at testing the participants’ outdoor survival skills and team work skills. It was a comprehensive tournament focused on physical strength and wisdom.
Nankai Team was mainly composed by the team members of the Nankai Dragon Boat Team, led by Wang Jie, an undergraduate student (2011) from the School of Medicine. After three days of dramatic competitions, Nankai team won the 5th place and the “Challenge Award”. Moreover, the team was also awarded the “Single Award” in the category “Outdoor Activities”, and the “Best Organization Award”.
