The Summer Social Practice Team of Zhou Enlai School of Government carried out volunteer teaching services at Wangbian Unity School, located in Yonghehui Town (Yongnian County, Handan City, Hebei Province). The activity was aimed at bringing cultural, scientific and medical services to the rural areas while responding to the national policy “Targeted Poverty Alleviation”.
This ten-day-long volunteer teaching activity was focused on passing on the spirit of “dedication to public interests and acquisition of all-round capability” in the rural areas. Apart from teaching, the members took the chance to research, establish a “Nankai Reading Room”, build innovative practice bases, and so on. Thanks to the cooperation with two elementary schools in Tianjin, the social practice team donated nearly 1,000 books and more than 2,000 RMB to establish the “Nankai Reading Room” at Wangbian Unity School. A “Reading Fund” aimed at encouraging the students of the school to study for the development of China was also established.
During the researches, the students who are specializing in City Management, Political Science, and Psychology took advantage of their disciplines, using the research methods of literature review and field survey to understand the development of education in rural areas, especially focusing on local parents’ educational concept.
