In the afternoon on February 18th, the final of North China section - CFA Institute Research Challenge was held at Central University of Finance and Economics’ Academic Hall. Nine teams from several famous Chinese universities, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Nankai University, Central University of Finance and Economics and so on, participated in the challenge. After several rounds of fierce competition, the team of Nankai University won the title Most Potential Team in the final of the North China section.
The team of Nankai University is composed by He Xinyi, master’s student in Finance (class of 2016), He Jiangtao, Jiang Jin and Zhang Yuke, undergraduates in Finance (class of 2013), and Li Xinyue, an undergraduate in Financial Engineering (class of 2013). The academic advisor is Wang Daoping, from School of Finance. The mentor of the group is Mr. Xu Yaowen, Director of the Department of Investment and Development of Songcheng Performance Development Co. Ltd, who strongly supported the participation of the students in the challenge.
CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that provides university students from all over the world with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in Finance. The Challenge invites the best international universities every year. The competition has three levels: local, regional, and global. The Chinese section of CFA Institute Research Challenge is divided into four levels: North China, East China, South China, and Midwest China. During the competition, the teams are required to research on a designated company, showing the team’s ability to write reports and give presentations, and providing ideas on how to promote stock research and analyze a company.
This year’s judges were Lu Man, Senior Manager of China Investment Corporation, Lin Xiaochi, Chair Analyst of CITIC Securities Co. Ltd., and Lin Weiping, CEO of FOF Investment. The winner of the final of CFA Institute Research Challenge - North China section will represent China in the Asian-Pacific Final which will be held in Bangkok (Thailand) in March 2017. The team of Nankai University finally won the title Most Potential Team thanks to the members’ financial knowledge, their quick minds, and logical abilities. For the team of Nankai University, this victory represents a breakthrough in the competition after seven years.
