British Parliamentary Style Debate – Beijing and Tianjin Tournament
September 24th, the “British Parliamentary Style Debate – Beijing and Tianjin Tournament” was held at the Lecture Hall of Nankai University’s Boling Building. The competition was sponsored by Nankai University Youth League and organized by Nankai University’s APEX English Debate Club. Many debaters from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Central University of Finance and Economics, Nankai University, and Singapore participated in the tournament.
The topic of the tournament was “THBT feminist movements should openly reject Taylor Swift as a feminist icon”. The participants debated over the definition of feminism and its goals, Taylor Swift’s life and image, female and male different points of view, woman’s rights in the modern society, and other issues. After the debate, the foreign teacher Yvonne Tucker, from Nankai University’s College of Foreign Languages, reviewed the tournament.
