From June 28th-30th, with the theme of “Opportunities and Challenges: Past and Future of Sino-Korean Relationship”, the 19th China’s Korean Studies International Symposium was held at Yanbian University. Chunfu Li, Vice Director of Nankai University’s Center of Asian Studies and vice professor of Zhou Enlai School of Government, was invited to attend the symposium. The hosts of the next session (the 20th session in 2019) were confirmed during the representative joint conference. The 20th China’s Korean Studies International Symposium will be co-hosted by Nankai University’s Center of Asian Studies and Center of Korean Studies.
Sponsored by the Academy of Korean Studies, the symposium of this year is hosted by Yanbian University’s Center of Korean Studies. More than 120 experts and scholars in the field of Korean Studies from 18 Korean universities such as Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea Institute of Central Studies, Korea University, and Sungkyunkwan University, and over 30 Chinese universities such as Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Nankai University, Zhejiang University, Zhongshan University, Shandong University, and University of Macau, participated in the symposium.
Initiated by eight centers of Korean Studies from Peking University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Shandong University, Zhejiang University (formerly Hangzhou University), Yanbian University, etc. in 1995, China’s Korean Studies International Symposium is the largest series symposium on Korean Studies in China. So far, it has been held for 19 sessions. As the highest platform of regular communication between Chinese and Korean scholars, the symposium has made great contribution to the mutual understanding of Chinese and Korean scholars and the improvement of China’s Korean Studies. In the past years, Chinese universities have held Symposium of Korean Traditional Culture for 9 times. In November 2008, “the Symposium of Korean Traditional Culture” has been renamed as “China’s Korean Studies International Academic Symposium” since the 10th session. The contents involve Korean politics, economy, diplomacy, history, literature, philosophy, culture, society, and other academic fields. Till now, experts and scholars from nearly 80 Chinese and 50 Korean universities and institutions attended the symposium.
