Recently, Nankai University officially released 2017 Report of Employment Quality. The Report shows that there are totally 6,981 graduates of Nankai University this year. Until November 27th, 2017, the overall employment rate has reached 96.00%.
The employment rates of all educational levels are higher than those of the national level. The employment rate of female graduates is slightly higher than that of male graduates.
The overall employment rate of Nankai University is 96 %, which is higher than that of the national level in 2017. From the perspective of educational level, the university has 747 doctoral graduates in 2017, accounting for 10.7 % and 88.49 % of all graduates and the national employment rate, 2,982 master graduates, 42.72 % and 95.77 %, and 3,252 undergraduates, 46.58 % and 97.94 %. The employment rates of all educational levels are higher than those of the national level, among which the rate of the undergraduates is 15 % higher than that of the national average.
In terms of gender, there are 6,981 graduates of Nankai University in 2017 with 3,981 female graduates taking up 57.03 % and 3,000 male graduates, 42.97 %, respectively. The male to female ratio is 1:1.33. Among the doctoral graduates of Nankai University, male and female employment rates are 87.83 % and 89.33 % respectively. Among master graduates, the rates are 95.96 % and 95.65 %. Among undergraduates, the rates are 97.20 % and 98.49 %.
The employment increases take place in world top 500 enterprises or grassroots, and the average month salary sees a marked growth in undergraduates.
Compared with the Report of Employment Quality in the latest three years, the employment rates have maintained a high level across the board. Beijing and Tianjin have become relatively popular destinations of employment with employment rates accounting for 18.46 % and 38.26 %, respectively. Meanwhile, the numbers of the students pursuing further study, starting business or working in grassroots have seen a year-on-year increase. In 2017, graduates working in grassroots have seen a year-on-year growth by 124 %, among which 70.83 % of graduates regard it a good opportunity to practice themselves and broaden their horizons.
A total of 518 graduates of 2017 opt for the world top 500 enterprises such as National Power Grid, China Petroleum and Natural Gas Group, and China Petrochemical Group, an increase by 18 graduates than that of 2016. From the perspective of employment sectors, the hottest sectors of the doctoral graduates, master graduates and undergraduates are respectively education, finance and information transmission, software and information technology, taking up 56.91 %, 24.88 % and 18.06 % of the total.
The average month salary of the 2017 graduates is 6,753 RMB. The average month salary of undergraduates is 6,260 RMB, whereas the number was 5,870 RMB in 2016. The starting salary of information transmission, software and information technology services is the highest among Nankai graduates.
The year 2017 sees an increase in overseas study.
The report shows that 1,240 undergraduates of the class of 2017 pursue further study in Chinese mainland (38.13% of the total) after graduation, an increase by 142 students than that of 2016 (35.82%). A total of 678 undergraduates study abroad (20.85% of the total), an increase by 100 students than that of 2016 (18.53% of the total). The top three destinations of overseas study are the U.S., the U.K. and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Among the students pursuing further study in Chinese mainland, 84.09% of them choose the same major as before, and the top reasons for their choice are the interests in certain majors, the demand for further study and the demand for career development. 94.41% of the graduates are satisfied with their option in Chinese mainland. Among those who study abroad, 77.24% of the graduates choose the same major as before, and the top reason for their choice is an aspiration for improving competitiveness (30.89% of the total). 96.75% of the graduates are satisfied with their overseas education.
The satisfaction rate between graduates and employers is relatively high.
According to the report, 86.84% of graduates think that their occupations correspond to their aspirations. The overall satisfaction rate of the graduates who have signed contractions with their employers is 91.26%. The employers’ overall satisfaction towards Nankai graduates is 95.35%.
The responsible person with the Student Career Center of Nankai University said that the university would step up efforts in cultivating students’ awareness and capabilities of innovation, improving their professional skills, their capabilities in combating pressure and managing their emotions so as to improve the employers’ satisfaction towards Nankai graduates. Moreover, the university should improve its mechanisms in mobilizing different departments to carry out career development training programs and cultivate professional and innovative talents. At the same time, more efforts should be made in helping graduates establish correct views on occupational choice and occupations. The university would also intensify practical teaching, strengthen university-enterprise cooperation and establish practice platforms to create favorable platform for students.
