On the morning of February 11th, Nankai University Dragon Boat Team won the 6th place in the 300-meter qualifying session (the 5th to 8th place) of the 1st World Ice Dragon Boat Club Championship (Jilin Stop). Member of the Executive Committee of International Collegiate Dragon Boat Federation, On behalf of Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Sports and Tianjin Dragon Boat Association, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Shubao Tian extended congratulations to the NKU Dragon Boat Team.
Co-osted by International Dragon Boat Federation and Chinese Longzhou Association, the 1st World Ice Dragon Boat Club Championship attracted teams of 37 countries and regions including Russia, Bulgaria, Moldova,Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, Jinlin Province, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Heilongjiang Province, Nanjing and Anhui Province.
On behalf of Tianjin, Nankai University Dragon Boat Team participated in the competition. Remarkably, the team conquered many difficulties in the winter holiday and completed the organization within only three days. After the team arrived in Jinlin, the team members took only one and a half hours to adapt to the new court and equipment. Led by coach and player Yuchuan Zhang, the team members overcame the severe cold and adapt to the new environment quickly.
On the first game day, NKU Dragon Boat Team overcame the severe cold, and won the 14th and 12th places of 100-meter and 200-meter competitions. However, the team members were not satisfied with the status quo and entered 300-meter qualifying session (the 5th to 8th place) by the 8th place. During the finals, the team defeated the two teams of Russia by 4 seconds, an overwhelming advantage against its rivals, and won the 6th place in the competition.
Beijing will host the 24th Winter Olympic Games in 2022. As a brand-new event, the ice dragon boat is very promising. The excellent performance of NKU Dragon Boat Team is not only the honor of the university, but also breaks a new ground for Tianjin ice dragon boat sports.
